Matariki 2024

Matariki hunga nui
Matariki, the gatherer of people

During the Matariki festivities, people gather together to celebrate the passing of the year and the hope of a new season. This whakataukī speaks to us about the gathering of people during Matariki.

Tapu Te Ranga celebrated the rising of Matariki a little differently this year, it was a small and intimate event that started with a dawn service on the morning of the 28th of June. There was a great turnout from the hapū, the Marae community as well as our neighbors.

Our kuia, Faith Tupou, shared kōrero hītori about the nine stars and we all shared a breakfast together on the field by the waharoa.
Though it was smaller this year, it was rich with everything that Matariki represents and was a great way to start our new year.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
